Dave's fight to defeat Cancer

In September 2018 this wonderful husband, father, and grandfather and my Uncle was diagnosed with Stage IV Lung Cancer. Dave was previously given a second chance on life 13 years ago when he received a liver transplant. Since then, he has not taken a single moment for granted, he is constantly making people smile, and loves spending time with his wife, ten grandchildren and five children. Dave truly has the biggest heart!

Over the summer he started to have a backache that would not go away to the point that he struggled to get around, it all happened so quickly. Several trips to the Emergency Department led to numerous doctors’ visits with no answers for the agonizing back pain. Until finally one doctor admitted him to the hospital and ordered an extra scan revealing cancerous nodules in his lung. Dave immediately contacted Sloan Kettering and underwent surgery to have the nodules removed. During the operation, the surgeon found that the cancer metastasized and it is Stage IV. At this time they were able to remove all of the nodules, and Dave has a real chance at beating this cancer with the right treatment.

He is recovering from surgery now and will be starting an intensive chemo treatment plan several times a week. He will need to continue seeing doctors, taking medications and getting additional scans too. Since he is a transplant recipient his case is more complex requiring more specialist appointments, specialized treatments plans, and also much more traveling between doctors to coordinate his care plan. More specialist appointments and the expensive prescriptions are really multiplying. Between taking time off of work, accumulating medical bills and costs of prescriptions, the financial stress and burden weighs heavily on his family. If you find it at all possible to donate anything it would be sincerely appreciated, and will be put directly toward medical expenses and care for Dave.

Dave is only 56 and truly wants to see his grandchildren grow up, we ask that you please pray and send positive healing wishes for Dave as he begins his battle against cancer. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
