Dave Sutherland's tumor eviction

Donation protected
Dave Sutherland is a Volunteer Firefighter for the Town of Blackfalds. He has served as a Volunteer Firefighter for 15 years. He has recently been diagnosed with Glioblastoma cancer. It is a type of brain cancer common amongst firefighters due to the constant toxins and carcinogens they are exposed to during a fire, and during the overhaul process. It is a terminal cancer that is very aggressive.

Volunteer firefighters are constantly sacrificing themselves in order to help others. They continuously leave supper on the table and their families behind to rush out the door and selflessly sacrifice to help those in need. Volunteer firefighters all have regular full-time jobs, but they are always there whenever an emergency happens. They work all night fighting a fire, or assisting people in a motor vehicle accident, come home only to have a shower and then they are off to their regular job to support their family and feed their kids. Now one of our own needs our help. He has given 15 years of his time, 15 years of running out the door at all hours to help others, and he now needs our help. Times are tough for everyone, but please help our firefighter brother as he battles this terrible, terminal disease, and help his family as they go through this horrific ordeal.

Firefighters are on average five times as likely to get cancer during there working careers. People hear every day of the dangers Firefighters face. Whether its a roof collapsing on top of you, or the floor giving out below you in a structure fire, to the car that speeds past and swerves into you while you help an accident on the side of the highway. But the far greater danger we face every day is the toxins and carcinogens that cling to every piece of equipment, and all our gear long after the fire is out, and a new home is built in its place. Firefighters are there to help you in your greatest time of need, now we ask that you please help one of our own, during his and his families greatest time of need.

The Blackfalds Firefighters Association wants to help Dave with all the extra costs he and his family will acquire during his treatment, and be able to have a little left for his family afterwards. Being a volunteer Firefighter, there is little WCB coverage as it wasnt his regular job. Now Dave and his family are facing this burden alone, and having to bear the financial strain of no income, as well as the massive amount of medical bills and medications he will have to pay for out of pocket.

"You run out the door every day to answer the call and help those in need, you never think you will be the one in need, with no financial support, because you did it as a volunteer".
