I'm writing this as a daughter wanting to be a savior, wanting to be a hero, and wanting to be strong for my family.
Asking for help was never something I thought my family would have to do in our life time, but in the past 4 years (especially the past 12 months), we have come to realize life isn't always what you thought it would be.
This all began 4 years ago, when my father, David, had his heartattack. It was quite serious, and he had to go through an over-night surgery to help with blockage in the Widowmaker artery. The blockage still isn't competely removed, leaving him with only 80% of the usage of his heart. Since then, money has been tight due to lack of benefits towards medications as well as being unable to work due to the heart attack.
Last year in October, my father fell. He thought he had a concussion and went to the walk-in clinic, where he was sent to the hospital urgently. They found a tumor and diagnosed my father with high gade brain cancer. The next week, he was set up for surgery to remove as much as the tumor that they possibly can, however could not remove all of the tumor. After a strenuous week of driving back and forth between Hamilton and Fort Erie, most of the tumor was removed but has left him on a strict routine of anti-nausea pills, chemo therapy pills as well as radiation every single day for 31 days, leaving him to be taking 15 pills everyday without any sort of coverage. Due to this, my dad is unable to work and because my mother is unable to work due to her health, my parents are left with no income and no money to put towards medications or important cancer treatments, let alone essential living costs.
In the midst of all of this heartache and the holiday season, a month before my father was diagnosed, we spent a lot of money to move back to Fort Erie from St. Catharines, only to be told we are to vacate the property as soon as possible even though my father is sick and going through chemotherapy as well as radiation everyday. These funds will help us with essential living costs as well as medications, etc as my family has no money coming in.
