Dave Johnson

On Saturday, August 25th 2018 Dave Johnson had a terrible accident.  Unfortunately he lost control driving home and wrecked into a tree. He was aircared to  University of Cincinnati hospital where the first 6 hours was spent stiching and stapling his head trauma back together. Scans came back shortly after showing a fractured T3, T4, C1 and C2 with the T3 and T4 compressing the spinal cord.  The first surgery was then scheduled shortly after to  put screws in T3 and T4 and then fuse C1 and C2 as well as inserting small rods in those as well. With the fractures in his thoracic portion of his spine he has no feeling from his chest down. Unfortantley the first surgery had to stop before the repair of C1 and C2 due to his condition. The second surgery was scheduled 3 days later to continue the repair. At this moment in time, we are sad to say there is still no feeling from about 6 inches above his belly button to his toes.  It has now been 17 days with daily complications continuing to pop up from all the trauma. Currently monitoring a blood clot issues in his carotid artery that also has a partial dissection, high blood pressure, rapid pulse rates, delierium and several bowel issues do to the paralysis.   

         As soon as Dave is stable the next journey of his life will begin.  We are currently looking into multiple spinal cord rehabilitation’s.  Several doctors encouraged a rehab that specializes in these injuries to give him a fighting chance to walk again.  Rehabilitation care is extreamly expensive especially one that specializes in something as severe as a spinal cord injury. A nurse at the hospital estimated it costing $80,000 per month.  On top of the stay at UC and the helicopter ride there will be an on going list of expenses any where from nurses, nurse aids, physical theripst, multiple doctor visits to renovating the house so it is accessible for him. This is where we hope to get some help from friends. If there is anything you can do it will be greatly appreciated.  We are in great need of prayers and positive thoughts. This is a long road to recovery, we invite all the encouragement possible.
