Oregon family desperate to get to Japan to be with daughter as she battles leukemia
We are asking for your support for one of our dear friends and colleagues...
Kevin and Miyuki Clark, local gallery owners and leaders in local/regional arts community, are facing the most difficult time in their lives. This week they received sad news that Marie, their 36 year old daughter’s leukemia has returned with a very grim prognosis. Kevin and Miyuki are dropping everything and leaving Tuesday for Japan to be with her. Monday, Marie will be admitted to the hospital in hopes that she qualifies for experimental treatment and medication that will allow her a few more memories with her 2 year old daughter and family.
The emotional challenges, ongoing medical costs and treatments, compounded by the expensive travel costs are overwhelming this family. Please help this family that has been so dear to our arts community. Donations in any amount are welcome!
The story…
In September 2016, Marie Knott was (ecstatically) 12 weeks pregnant when diagnosed with Acute Mixed Leukemia. Always a fighter, Marie chose to combat this disease and keep her baby despite the many challenges she and her family were facing. Marie found a doctor committed to treating her for the leukemia while keeping her baby safe. Immediately, Marie began chemo and other treatments in the hospital. Joyously, Marie and family welcomed 3 pound baby Irene at 30 weeks. Following the birth, Marie immediately underwent stronger treatments and in 2017 had 2 bone marrow transplants. As a result, Marie was in remission and thought the cancer fight was over. Baby Irene and mommy were happy and thriving! Suddenly and very sadly, news this week reported the cancer has returned and treatment options are limited...life expectancy is very short.
