Daufuskie Green

Last summer, I started Daufuskie Green,  a recycled  & repurposed shop on Daufuskie Island, South Carolina. We had a great season, but people always asked..."did you make this or paint that?"  I figured  someone with a Fine Arts degree should at least explore the possibility of making their own stuff. Over the past year, I have fine tuned  my vision for Daufuskie Green and began making my own  products instead of relying on my favorite vendors.

After Hurricane Matthew, I began collecting scrap wood and island junk and because Daufuskie Island currently has no recycling program, I am now giving new life to items like old bottles, palettes, and paint.  What I seemed to forget is, art supplies and tools are expensive! The use of decent tools and supplies would allow for better products and bigger profits for Daufuskie Green.

I have been offered a modest workshop (old shed) and store (covered slab) at the historical Mary Fields School on Daufuskie Island. Commercial space is almost non existant on our small island, so the opportunity wont last long. Immediate funds would also go to improve the workshop, starting with the tree going through the roof, and additional inventory.

For those of you who know me, you know I've always wanted my own store. You also know I have a style all my own:  delightfully tacky, but sincere.  I have worked in retail and design for most of my professional career. I finally have the opportunity to share something fun and do something good, at the right place, in the right way at the right time. I just need a little help getting things going.

Friends, I've never done anything like asking for donations before. It is a really humbling experience that if I think about it too long, I'll talk myself out of it.
