It's with great sadness in our hearts that we announce on the day of August.19, 2014 Brigitte Rodriguez took her last breath and left us.
Let us take the time to introduce you to this very special person, whom left an impact on anyone that came in contact with her. Ever since the day she was born, she has always been a fighter, she was a premature baby with a small percentage of survival. That strength alone made her special to her mother and father. At the young age of 15 she was confined to a wheelchair, she lost both legs and suffered chronic pain due to a tragic train accident in a New York City Subway. As always, fighting to live, and multiple surgeries later, she survived and made it through. She accepted her new life, with a positive prospective. That strength and courage alone made her special to anyone she came in contact with.
God realized she had a purpose here on earth, there's a couple of lives she needed to impact, so he let her live for 24 more years. Brigitte always had a smile on her face, despite the chronic pain that she endured constantly. She learned to live with it and never complained to us about it. While we thought it was not fair at all, and felt sorry…to her it was unacceptable so she would find humor in her new life to bring a smile to us.
One day her and her cousin needed a cab to stop in the streets of New York City, it occurred to her that if she took her prosthetic leg off and gave it to her cousin, they'll think it's her sexy leg and stop. Another time she went to the movies with her best friend, her friend said that they needed a section for handicap. The guy looked at her and to my disgust, he tells us that it needs to be proven. She never needed anyone to fight for her….So, she told him "I'll remove my left leg and show it to you and with my right leg, I'll kick you." Her strength and courage amazed us every time. She often said "My tears are not going to repair my body nor make my legs grow again. I accepted my new life as a person who no longer walks. I'm grateful to be alive. I can see, hear, speak, and touch. I lost my legs but not my mind." This taught us strength and acceptance, to take any obstacle you may face and change it to a challenge to make you stronger. What impacted me the most was the day she came across a depressed woman who survived breast cancer which required amputation. She told her "It's going to be all right if you accept your new life and make the best of it. Look at me, God took my legs knowing how much I love to dance. You can still walk and dance, as for me I can't. I learned embrace my time here on earth." She made a great impact on this woman and she accepted her new life as well. Without realizing it she left us all with life lessons to live by, for us to live and not only exist here on earth. Live like Brigitte, leave behind a story about how many times you made a person smile at their lowest. Now she's in heaven whole again doing what she loved best...dancing.

Brigitte's wish was to come back to Brooklyn in 2014 to be close to her family and friends. Let's honor her wish to bring her to her last resting place. Her parents are in need of funds and together we can honor her wish, and bring a smile from Brigitte looking down at us from heaven. She was all about helping others, now it's our turn to help her parents whom lost their only daughter. Anything you can donate will be greatly appreciated, together we can make this happen.
