Just a week ago we received the most shocking news of our lives. My beautiful wife was diagnosed with a very rare type of cancer known as a sarcoma. As many of you know our lives recently changed in a very different way, when we welcomed our incredible baby boy Carter into our lives. He has brought us so much joy with his laughter and unconditional love that our lives have been full of light.
This change, however, also forced Sarah to pay closer attention to her body. A few months after Carter’s birth she started to notice back pain. At first, we suspected just a simple muscle strain from her contorting her body to breastfeed & hold our baby. The pain eventually became more constant and severe. It started to keep her from sleeping and lying in certain positions. We grew concerned that we may have a bigger problem.
An MRI of her back was done and our journey took an incomprehensible turn. Once the suspicion was high for a malignancy, God and the incredible physicians at the University of Miami took over. Thankfully, our rock star family stepped in as Emily, an oncologist in training at UM was able to streamline the process and get her biopsied, imaged, and in with multiple physicians within a week.
The amazing Sarcoma team at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at University of Miami is working to finalize her diagnosis and come up with a treatment plan. This will almost assuredly include an extensive surgery and possible chemotherapy and radiation. We are in for a long road of doctors visits, hospitalizations, scans, treatment, and recovery.
Sarah is the strongest person I know. She is an incredible mom, wife, daughter, sister, friend, teacher and a pillar of strength for her family and friends. We never thought we would have to fight this battle, but now that we are facing it, she is ready to fight for her life. We know in our hearts that she will win, but she needs our help. We ask you to keep our family in your prayers as we navigate this unknown world. We are starting this Go Fund Me to help us pay for the all of medical bills we will face.
