Dasan's Going to Harvard U!
Donation protected
This year, I will be heading off to Boston, MA for 9 months. I was appointed as a 2015-2016 Nasir Jones Fellow at the Hip Hop Archive at Harvard University. The archive is at the Hutchins Center for African & African American Research. I will be under the leadership of Dr. Marcyliena Morgan and Dr. Henry Louis Gates Jr. and interacting with other fellows from all over the world. I am excited for this amazing opportunity to grow, learn, and share.
I will be researching lyricism in Hip Hop. I will be participating in programming on campus and also taking part in professional development activities. I will be building with my fellow scholars and artists. I will be balancing my time on campus with reaching out to the Boston community and to communities across the Northeast. I can't wait to see what is possible.
So, I am moving to one of the more expensive places in the country. I am transitioning my life up north and there is so much that comes with it. As I am transitioning my past and present, I am also looking to my immediate future and considering what will make this all work well. So I am fundraising.
I want to be totally prepared for whatever opportunities come. I want to be able to capture moments and document my experiences. I want to not only come away from this fellowship with the research foundation for my future work, but also a project that shows reflects my journey.
Your support will help me accomplish everything that I need to do as I transition to my fellowship. It will help me with necessary equipment, infrastructure (personal and professional), and other resources that will ensure that I can make the most of this opportunity. I want to hit the ground being able to move on campus and off with the same aim I have always had, to operate with my art forms and my arts community in mind.
I will be working with some media outlets to keep you up to date on what I am doing up there. I will be completing art projects as I am up there. I will be working on a culminating book about my journey. I will be watching, learning, and planning. I will be continuing my work with the Radical Voice & Artistic Expression arts & activism workshop. All with your support.
I have just released my new spoken word CD entitled, "Last Temptation Before Sunrise: the prologue." At the end of the year I will follow it up with "Glory After Dawn: the epilogue." All inspired by this new journey. Donating will get you a copy of the current CD and put you on the list to get first access to the second CD.
Feel free to claim a reward or you can just support because you feel it in your heart. Any support is appreciated.
Thank you so much!
