Darryl’s Memorial Service

Darryl. What can I say, as I’m still in shock from his sudden passing. He was a friend of mine from Canada. More so than that, he was a brother who I got the privilege of living with. We were friends. Roommates. Family.

He was a boxer back in Toronto. After the loss of his mom, he made the move to America with the dream of training at some of the best gyms in California and competing professionally. He was determined to become the best, in memory of his mom.

His life didn’t take the path he thought. He ended up taking a detour into the unknown for awhile. In between all of the darkness, there were still moments of hope to find a positive direction. He finally found light again within the last few weeks of his life.

Along the way, our roads diverged. Things happened. People change. But that never changed the fact that he was good-hearted, loyal, and pure.

As of September 10th, 2018, Darryl parted with this lifetime. His 25 years ran its course. 25 years, so young and gone too soon.

His sudden death leaves behind a lot of questions and mixed feelings. I am still trying to wrap my brain around the reality. So many of us are lost and confused. Especially to his beloved family whom all reside in Toronto, Canada. He had a brother in me and the rest of the friends he called family out here in California.

He wasn’t a rich man, but he was genuine. He had heart and was always willing to help out, even if he had a penny in his pocket. He was just trying to get by the best he knew how and with the hand he was dealt.

I don’t really know what to do. But, one thing we can do is reunite him and his family, who are back in Canada. His family who are all completely heartbroken by the loss of their baby brother and son. The family, as generous as Darryl’s heart was, has not even asked for a penny from anyone. I would love if we could all come together to relieve some of the pain by compensating their time off work, babysitters for their kids, flights, hotels, and funeral costs. One last good deed for Darryl, who has done endless good deeds in his short life.

I will try my best, but I can’t do it alone. Any donation- $1, $5, $20- will mean something and go a long way.

He had a bright future. He was kind and humble with a vibrant smile and warm soul. So much to live for. The world has lost another young soul. Life is too fucking short and even the strong ones leave us.

May he rest in paradise with his Mom and his Grandfather.

Thank you.
