Darryl Kalthof made dreams of flight come true for hundreds of people.

Since becoming a pilot in 1988, Darryl's love of aviation evolved from a career plan, into sharing his passion with others wanting to take to the skies.   A certificated flight instructor since 1993, Darryl has endeavored to share his vast knowledge and his excitement with hundreds of aspiring pilots.  He gave over 14,000 hours of flight instruction to his many fortunate students.  He loved to teach and had a gift for physics, guiding students and preparing them in every aspect of their flight training.

Darryl, 50, was a caring man in every area of his life.  A devoted husband to Melva, and dedicated father to Rachel, his sudden loss on July 12th has left his family and the entire Bay Area aviation community in shock, mourning his loss.

Darryl's endeavors and accomplishments as a pilot, expert, friend, advisor, colleague, and teacher are without equal.  With a love of learning, integrity and grit, he shared his passion and intellect with us.  We will miss his contagious smile.

Donations to the Darryl Kalthof Family Memorial Fund are being sought by the West Valley Flying Club in an effort to help the Kalthof family during this devastating time of unexpected loss, funeral expense, and college savings for Rachel, age 15.
