My name is Denise and I’m starting this fundraiser to help two dear friends, Darren & Gail, while Darren is in the fight of his life against stage 4 Esophageal Cancer.
On December 5, 2025 Darren was having a gastric scope done in Regina to check for bleeding ulcers as he had been having issues with low iron levels. That day will forever change the future for Darren and Gail. Darren was diagnosed with stage 4, or better, Esophageal cancer with lymph nodes in the abdomen already involved.
On December 12, 2026 Darren had a procedure done with a scope to stretch his esophagus to aid him in swallowing and eating. He also had a PICC line inserted on this date.
Jan 8, 2026 Darren & Gail met with his Oncology team at the Allen Blair Cancer Clinic in Regina.
Jan 21, 2026 Darren had PET Scan in Saskatoon.
Jan. 26, 2026 Darren starts chemo. The clinic has stated that as Darren receives more treatment the side effects may worsen. This may result in Gail having to take extended time away from work to help him in his day to day activities.
Darren is waiting on results from a PET Scan at this time to determine just how advanced the cancer is.
As of now, Darren will be off work for an extended period of time. With the many trips to Regina and Saskatoon in their future they will need help with the associated costs of all the travelling. Gail’s employer has been extremely understanding and has given her the time needed to attend appointments and be by Darren’s side. Friends and family are just a phone call away as well to fill any unexpected voids.
Many friends and people in the community have asked how they can help….this is how. By aiding with the financial burdens they will be facing during this most difficult of times. Anyone who knows Darren knows he likes to keep busy tinkering, camping and spending time visiting. Now, it’s not as easy for him to do these things.
I will do my best to keep everyone updated as Darren and Gail pass the information along.
Let’s rally around Darren and Gail and show them some much needed love and generosity to help them through this new normal unfolding before them.
