Darrell Clark Memorial Fund

Three weeks ago Darrell and Shana were enjoying time with friends & family on Lake Martin, AL. Darrell & Shana were their very own version of “Chip & Joanna” working on a lake home to someday make their retirement home.  They were talking about living an easy life in a small lake community and "having fun with their grandkids".

October 2016, Darrell was treated for what was thought to be a melanoma.  Pathology results were inconclusive but he was sent to a surgeon to have the spot removed as a precaution.    The results came back benign.

On July 16, 2018 he made an appointment with a Gastroenterologist with what he thought was "a very bad belly ache”.   He was immediately admitted into the hospital and after several ultra sounds, CT scans, MRIs & a biopsy; he was diagnosed with stage IV metastatic melanoma in the brain, lungs, lymph nodes and abdomen. Very quickly, a treatment plan was put in place to first focus on the 3 mets in his brain.  He was released from the hospital to only be admitted again when undergoing Cyberknife radiation treatment there was a health concern which then lead to another hospitalization.  9 liters of fluid was removed from his belly and again Darrell was released in order to get through a second Cyberknife treatment on the brain.  A treatment plan was then put in place for a chemotherapy regimen to begin Monday, July 30th.  As his breathing continued to become labored and edema was setting in, Darrell was then taken to the ER on Sunday, July 29th.  Darrell was fighting for his life.  The doctors were extremely concerned and after more tests were completed, Shana was told Darrell would most likely not be going home.  Darrell was moved to the MICU and he received chemo while in the hospital.

The overwhelming support via texts, calls, messages, emails and visitors was unbelievable.  Darrell touched so many lives. He never pretended to be anything more than who he is. He was a believer in our Lord. He is a son, a husband, a father, a brother, a friend, a mentor, a coach, a business owner.  He had one of the biggest hearts in the world. He loved his children and his wife dearly. He was a talker. He was stubborn. He was the life of the party. He never met a stranger.

On 2:17am on August 4th,  our sweet Darrell went to be with the Lord. He was a devoted, loving Husband, and he was an amazing father. He treated everyone like he’d known them forever. Their home was always open to others no matter what the need.  Darrell loved to cook for friends and family. He loved to fish and he loved his Dallas Cowboys.

Their family will move forward, but now, Shana, Kennedi, Avery and Tanner will need a lot of support.  Medical expenses, loss of income and college for Tanner and Avery.
