Red Hot Mama Darnel Morales

Donation protected
Vivacious single mom of two kids diagnosed with a debilitating lung disease.

My sister Darnel Morales is the most vivacious single mom I know.  Raising two children on her own and working full time would be exhausting for anyone; however this red hot mama never once slowed down.    She has worked for the Miami Childrens Home for twelve years.  Darnel put herself through school and earned a BA degree in Health Administration  in 2016.

This past October Darnel started experiencing lack of energy and shortness of breath.  Her doctor told her it was bronchitis and allergies.  On November 29th she was rushed to the hospital with a collapsed lung and was diagnosed with a rare lung disease, LAM disease.

What is LAM Disease?
LAM lung disease (lymphangioleiomyomatosis) is a rare lung disease that tends to affect only women.  In LAM lung disease, muscle cells that line the lungs' airways and blood vessels begin to multiply abnormally. These muscle cells spread into areas of the lung where they don't belong.  The air sacs in the lung also swell and form small pockets called cysts. As the cysts develop throughout the lungs, LAM causes breathing problems .
The muscle cells can spread outside the lung, forming noncancerous tumors on organs in the abdomen and pelvis.  LAM is not cancer, but appears similar to other conditions in which benign tumors grow uncontrollably.

No one knows what causes pulmonary LAM.   Fewer than 2,000 women are known to have LAM today.

Pulmonary lymphangioleiomyomatosis is progressive, and so far there is no cure. Most women with LAM experience a steady decline in lung function, with increased shortness of breath over time.   If pulmonary lymphangioleiomyomatosis progresses and becomes disabling, lung transplantation is the only option.

Darnel is in the process of being added to the national lung transplant list.  This is a 3-4 month process involving numberous tests and approval by the transplant board.  Her doctors are confident she is healthy and young enough to make the list.  The wait list for lungs to become available is lengthy and is based  upon compatablity.  It is impossible to say when she will be able to receive new lungs.

What does Darnel need at this time?  Prayers, support, and help.  Her medical bills are astronomical and insurance only pays for a portion of the bills.   Daily medication and oxygen is monetarily breaking the single income family.  On top of the high medical bills, Darnels home is now in forclosure.  She needs to be able to stay in her home until she is able to get lung transplants and support her family as she had prior to her illness.

If you could please consider donating to Darnel's Go Fund Me page it would be a blessing to her and her children.

Please register as organ donors too.  Go to your DMV website to do so.  It could save many lives.
