Dark Star Universe Film & WorkShop

Dark Star Universe is an independent arts & media organization with a focus on education through science fiction/Afrofuturism. Our projects are geared toward building dioramas and customized models that promote community building,nation building and creating narratives of black self-determination for youth. It is our intention to create arts media that will encourage young people to use their imagination in finding creative ways to recycle and upcycle e-waste and other discarded materials into amazing works of art. Dark Star Universe host work shops for youth to learn how to build dioramas from recycled materials. The workshops are also an opportunity to enlighten young people about different African architectural aesthetics in a fun creative format.  We need your support in helping us reach our goal of educating marginalized youth about the importance of community power, organization and Identity through the arts. Some of the materials used in the workshops require cost. Those cost go towards glues,paints, brushes, airbrushes, computers, video cameras, 3D printers and other supplies necessary to make the creations come to life. We prefer  to offer our workshops for free or at low cost, but in order to do so we need your financial support. Our end goal is to create a series of stop motion animations using the toys and dioramas we create. The film will be used as a tool to promote Black self determination in a science fiction genre that has little to none in it. Our hope is to bring a healthy diversity to speculative fiction with an authentic voice that examines a future through a new lens. The films are meant to be educational tools bringing awareness to themes of community building, recycling, health and identity. Your support will help us realize our creative potential with the youth through the work shops and creation of the film.
