Dark Necessities is a psychological horror/thriller short film that delves into themes of morality, nihilism and free will. Produced by Luna Pictures in conjunction with SAE Creative Media Institute Sydney.

Dark Necessities follows Oliver, a young charismatic man with a reprehensible secret. Unlike many men his age he enjoys partaking in activities a tad more sinister than usual. Over the course of this film, Oliver finds himself on a spree, the nights casualties being two young women who just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. We, the audience, play witness to the entire thing. As the night unfolds, Oliver entertains the audience through fourth wall breaks narrating his life story, motivations and occasional anecdotes.
We are currently in the pre-production phase! Our crew is working hard to secure locations, cast and crew to create a high quality production. Not only is this a major film work, we’re planning to submit this film project to national and international film festivals.
As an independent/student film production, we are currently asking for funds to help with the following:
- Catering costs for the crew and cast on-set
- Location costs
- Set Design, Costumes, Special Effects Makeup (Prosthetics, etc.)
- Fight Coordinator
- Camera Equipment costs (Steadicams, sliders, etc.)
- Transportation costs
- We understand that money is a tight asset especially in these tough times. So any support is much appreciated!
Director’s Statement:
Hello! My name is Alicia and I am the Writer and Director of Dark Necessities! For those of you who know me in person, you may also be familiar with my undying love for film, particularly the horror genre. I find that too often horror movies or just movies in general that explore gruesome themes are often overlooked and labeled as ‘distasteful’ and fail to provide anything other than ‘shock factor’. This couldn’t be further from the truth! I want to show audiences that horror can enhance the movie experience, using it as a means to an end. I want audiences to question themselves after watching ‘Dark Necessities’. Are you morally malaligned? Let’s find out.
