Darcy’s Emergency Surgery

Darcy wasn’t able to keep down food for the past few days (i.e. non-stop vomiting), and started having severe belly pain, so I took her to the vet and they sent us straight to the emergency room. The ER admitted Darcy immediately and after many anxiety-filled hours without an update, they called me into a little examination room, and Darcy wasn’t there. The diagnosis was worst case scenario, they have to do emergency intestinal surgery due to a linear foreign object. In other words, they need to cut her belly open and remove something wrapping around her intestines (and part of the intestine itself) before it punctures and destroys her stomach, resulting in death.

The doctor said the operation would cost $4,500, requiring a deposit that, frankly, requires nearly all the money up front, and asked “what I wanted to do.”

I couldn’t not say yes, Darcy is only 1 year and 5 months old, and she’s played a huge part in my mental health recovery since adopting her in October.

I feel so awkward asking for money, but I can’t envision our family without Darcy, and I’m turning to you for help so she can stick around for many years to come.
