Hurricane Harvey Relief

My husband Jesse and I live in the Canyon Gate community in Katy, TX. We are teachers in Katy ISD at Williams Elementary School. We have been told that we will not be able to get back into our home for weeks to months. We left our home with a voluntary evacuation on Sunday, August 27, 2017 at 6:30am. Thinking we would be coming home within hours to get the rest of our belongings, we left our two sweet cats in the house. By Sunday at 1:00 pm there was 3 feet of water in our home. Our cats are most likely dead and it is heart breaking! We now have 4 feet of water confirmed in our home and National Gaurd will not allow us to re-enter our gated community for who knows how long. Barker Reservoir was released into our community to help millions of people in Houston not lose their homes. But, because of this, and not having a manditory evacuation until the flooding already had happened, we were only able to grab 4 pairs of clothes each, our dog, my purse and each other. Everything else we own is gone. We are homeless and have no belongings. We are at a loss for words.

We have no flood insurance, and don't know how much our homeowners insurance will cover. We have applied for FEMA, but this will take 60-90 days to get any money to cover our home destruction. And, we don't know how much we will get, if any. Any donations you can make are extremely helpful!
