</div>
<div><br />

<div>It is with deep disappointment that DAQ announces that the Superior Court has issued a <strong>temporary unfavorable decision</strong> following its request for an injunction against MAPAQ, aimed at preventing the use of calves and young bulls for entertainment purposes at the St-Tite Western Festival on May 17 and 18, 2025.

<div>On <strong>May 8, 2025</strong>, we appeared in court to order MAPAQ to impose a moratorium on the use of calves in lasso events and to enforce strict restrictions on steer wrestling.

<div>❌ that the roping of calves must stop, and
</div>
<div>❌ that the imposition of very strict restrictions on steer wrestling is mandatory.

<div><strong>UN SIGNALEMENT DU DAQ – LE MAPAQ DÉCIDE DE NE PAS AGIR</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>

</div>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>

<div><strong>MAPAQ DECIDES TO IGNORE THE ADVICE OF FOUR VETERINARIANS IT APPOINTED TO PROTECT ANIMALS BEINGS USED DURING THE ST-TITE RODEO</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>In July 2022, the four veterinary experts appointed by MAPAQ to its working group concluded that tie-down calf roping, steer wrestling and team roping compromise the animal beings’ welfare and safety. Their <a href="https://cdn-contenu.quebec.ca/cdn-contenu/adm/min/agriculture-pecheries-alimentation/publications-adm/rapport/RA_bien_etre_animaux_rodeos_MAPAQ.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">public report over 100 pages long</a>, concludes that:

<div><strong>DAQ FILED A REPORT – MAPAQ DECIDES NOT TO ACT</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>In March 2025, <strong>DAQ filed a report with MAPAQ insisting on an emergency moratorium</strong>, given that the summer rodeo will take place on May 17 and 18, 2025 (for contestant qualifications) in preparation for the 10-day St-Tite Western Festival in September 2025.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>MAPAQ is responsible for protecting animal beings, yet our report remains without any reply whatsoever.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>MAPAQ has made the decision not to act!</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>DAQ firmly believes that MAPAQ’s inaction has gone on far too long – immediate and decisive action is now required to implement the protective recommendations made by its own four veterinarians. That’s why we are now turning to the courts to request a moratorium (suspension of activities) involving calves and steers.
