Dan's medical and family

I am reaching out in a time of need for a family that we may all know…Dan Weir and Melonie Pederson and even if you do not know them please take a moment and read their story.  Especially at this time of year we all can think of something to be thankful for but for Melonie and Dan life is just too short!

Dan Weir and Melonie Pederson have been together for 20 years and share a beautiful life with Sydney (12 years old) and Haven (10 years old).  Their lives changed on October 7, 2017 because while working Dan had a massive seizure, he was admitted into the Blue Water Health Hospital in Sarnia where he spent two days in ICU having tests and MRI’s to try and identify what was causing the seizure.

Dan was transferred to the University Hospital in London, Ontario on October 9th and on October 10th he had to undergo brain surgery.  After testing and second opinions Dan was diagnosed with having Glioblastma cancer (GBM) which is the most aggressive cancer that begins within the brain, affecting about 10,000 people each year -- about half of whom will die within 15 months of diagnosis, it is aggressive, infiltrative and cannot be cured by surgery.

Since receiving this devastating news Dan has lost the use of his right arm, he has 5-8 seizures a day and cannot work.  He has been in and out of the hospital and on October 16th Dan suffered a 3.5 hour seizure which he was admitted back into the hospital and released on October 18th.  Dan has radiation treatments at the hospital every day Melonie has been by his side every step of the way and is taking care of him!

His benefits are not even covering basic costs of living let alone the additional costs that they incur for example hospital parking and medication costs that are not covered by his benefits, & bills…bills…bills.

The doctors have told Dan that he is lucky to have 15 months to enjoy his life, his family!   You can only imagine what that kind of news must feel like to a person and their loved ones.

By asking many to give a little, I hope to help Dan and Melonie to feel a little less stress of daily life, to help with all their extra costs and to help them focus on their family and the time they have left together.
