Danny Tufaga’s College Tuition

Donation protected
Hi everyone! My name is Danny Tufaga and I am 23 years old. I recently just took an exam for a private college to get into a nursing program but found out that I will be needing to pay out of pocket to begin. I am trying my best to save up, but I feel defeated with bills piling up. Any help is truly appreciated. I won't give up until I can finally earn a college education.

A little more about my past..

Growing up wasn’t easy for me or my family. Looking back on my childhood, I am in awe of the innocent nature that I had, and I miss it. We used to live in a house that was too small to accommodate us all, and my brothers and I set up beds in the garage where we spent nights through hot summers and cold winters. To the “me” now writing this and the “you” reading this, it sounds so miserable, but to the childhood “me” - it wasn’t so bad at all. There were good memories from those times, and as long as I had my family around I knew we could get through it together. I will never forget the days when we jumped from place to place because my mom could never keep up with house payments. Twice, we even moved temporarily to different states outside of California. Despite these experiences, I still never thought I had it so bad. In fact, it is because I’ve been through these times that I want to pursue a career in nursing.

I want to be a nurse to help people and also, to set an example. I’ve been fortunate throughout the years to have interacted with a few nurses through previous jobs and social events, and their work ethic always peaked my curiosity and inspired me. They are just people, like you and me, but who have stability and a balanced schedule for family and work - things I’ve never had. There are many people who doubt my capabilities simply because of where I come from. I know that nursing school isn’t going to be an easy obstacle for me. However, I am eager to learn and am hungry for a higher education.

It was the greatest feeling I've ever felt when I received my high school diploma. In that moment as I walked across the stage, I knew I couldn’t stop there. I’ve seen how illness affects the poorer community and how the lack of education misdirects people from seeking proper health initiatives, and I want to help change that. I want to give my future family a life that I could not have. It would be a blessing for me to be accepted into Nursing School and ultimately become a nurse. It took me a long time to reach this decision, but now that I am here, I've never been so sure of anything. I want to make my family proud, but most of all I want to prove all the thoughts of self doubt and insecurity wrong. I want people to know, especially the children sleeping on mats and sometimes going for days without a warm meal, that no matter where you come from, it doesn’t define who you are. You can make it as long as you put your mind and dedication into following your dreams.
