Where do I even begin... life has been rough for the few month. Last August I was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer that had also spread to my lymph nodes.
Oringinally my dr thought the lump in my throat was only a cyst and told me not to be worried. After many blood tests and multiple scans it was recommended that I get a biopsy of the lump, which came back cancerous. I then went in for a full thyroidectomy (removal of my thyroid gland) as well as a center and left neck dissection (removal of lymph nodes and tissue) in order to remove the visible cancer. It was explained to me that everything went very well and the next step would be to undergo iodine radiation in order to kill any microscopic cancerous thyroid cells left behind. When the time came I prepared for radiation with 2 weeks of being off of my medication, a strict low iodine diet, and a small dose of radiation, followed by a full body scan. The day before treatment my doctor reviewed the scans and determined that there was too much cancerous tissue left behind from the first surgery.
And this is where we are today...
I now have a second surgery scheduled for May 2nd in order to remove the rest of the visible cancer. 6 weeks after recovery I will finally start the radiation process again. Hopefully that will be the last step before I can return to my full health and move on from it all.
Those of you who know me know that I wouldn’t ask for help unless I absolutely needed it. That is part of the reason it has taken me this long to reach out. The reality is that my medical bills are doubling because I will now be undergoing everything twice. I am on a deductible plan through my work and am left with paying 30% of the medical costs. These costs include periodic lab work, multiple MRIs, a ct scan, 2 full body scans, 2 surgeries, and radiation treatments.
Thank you to everyone who is able to donate or willing to share this page. We are hoping this will help us put a dent in these crazy medical bills. I also want to say thank you to everyone who has kept me and my family in their thoughts and prayers through out this entire journey.
