Daniel’s Story…

A wish and a dream…

Have you ever had a wish or a dream that you wanted to come true?  I know someone very special that deserves just that.  I am writing this and setting up this page to tell you about Daniel Keane.  I have known Daniel for over 6 years.  The first thing I can tell you is that he is one of the most honest, hardworking, thoughtful, and genuine men I have ever met.  He has a style and character all his own and when people meet him, they tend to not forget his ways.  But life has not been very kind to Daniel from his birth to the present day.  If you ask Daniel, he would be the first one to say that his life could have been much worse, but I am here as an outsider to tell you that it was a pretty hard and painful life.  He has been in the foster system, adopted, abused, a runaway to get away from the abuse, lived in a boy’s home and literally has the scars to show it all – both externally and internally.  And that was just till his teenage years.  His young adult and adult life hasn’t been much better.  He has been on his own since he was a teenager and has managed the best he could, but not without difficulty.  With personal situations and unfair financial problems, he has been just trying to keep his head above water his whole life.  To be quite honest, I have only mentioned a small portion of all of the things that have happened in Daniel’s life.  Daniel has been working as a house painter for over 26 years.  And thanks to some good and patient people along the way, he has become very talented at what he does allowing him to own his own business for over 15 years now.  Many people know Daniel as the “barefoot painter” because he always paints without his shoes on.  I know that may sound quirky, but it is just one of the many things that makes Daniel so unique.  Regardless of his great talent, he still lives from day to day, week to week, rent to rent because he can’t stand to charge someone any more than he would pay for the job himself.  He doesn’t live in any extravagant way.  He lives very simply and never beyond his means.    He is content driving his Chevy van to see a Dave Matthews concert or to watch a NASCAR race.  Through it all, he has worked on dealing with his past, his frustrations, and his pain, including forgiving all of those who have hurt and abused him.  Daniel doesn’t like to talk about this too much, but he donated his kidney a few years ago to a friend who was battling a kidney condition.  He saw his friend hooked up to machines for hours a day to keep him alive.  When Daniel learned that a new kidney would help, he immediately volunteered to get tested.  He was a match and without much thought, he went through with the transplant.  And today that friend is alive and well.  Daniel is a giving person and one of the most thoughtful I know.  He rarely, if at all, asks for help, nor does he look for acknowledgement for the things he does.  Daniel has always done them just because. He saves all the animals he can (with 6 of his own) and helps out anyone in need.  He would go without just to help others, both furry and human, which he has done.  In his day to day life, he always goes the extra mile.  He brings dinner or coffee to a friend when he stops by and tips the gas station attendant when he gets gas.  He paints just a little bit extra for a homeowner that wasn’t in the estimate, just to be kind and he brings pastries or bagels to them on the weekends to show his gratefulness that they allow him to work in their homes during their personal time. There are many more things that Daniel does out of the pure goodness in his heart.    However, he has gotten to the point in his life where he keeps his expectations low, so he isn’t let down when things don’t go well for himself.  When you have been pushed down so often in life, you tend to get comfortable there.  No good and decent human being deserves to feel that type of complacency.  Daniel never asks for much, but he does have wishes and dreams.  A wish to find true peace and calm in his life, which is a work in progress.  And a dream to make something more for himself.  He is beginning to feel that his life is over and that it is too late for anything good to go his way.  As a house painter, he has come up with ways to make the job easier.  Little tools and inventions along the way.  One of these tools is to help both the homeowner and/or the professional painter to paint more efficiently and safely, especially when climbing a ladder while painting.  He has had the opportunity in recent months to take this tool/invention and make that dream come true.  He has met with a lawyer and has begun protecting his invention, as well as an engineering and sourcing company.  When he thinks about this idea becoming something big, he lights up and is truly happy.  Unfortunately, that joy is only short lived in his mind.  He immediately feels it will never happen for him.  I, and those close to him, believe and know that this dream can happen.  Unfortunately, it takes funding to make it happen.  Funding that is pretty hard to come by when you live job to job.  Daniel deserves to live out his dream.  To at least make the attempt for this invention to become a reality.  He needs to see that the human spirit and human support prevails. That there is good in his world.  Daniel does have faith, but he loses sight of it sometimes, as many of us do.  And in recent days, he has lost faith in his purpose as a human being in this world.  Please remind Daniel that he deserves happiness, joy, and the chance to have his dreams fulfilled.  Please consider donating and funding Daniel’s dream.  He has done so much good for others….now it is his turn.  And because he is not one to ask for help, I am doing it for him.  Thank you in advance for your support.  Any amount would help Daniel.  Also, please share with everyone you know via text, email, and social media.  Thanks again! :)
