Danielle was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma on Friday, March 8 and began her chemo treatment immediately on Monday, March 11 at Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. She will have months of treatment that will involve traveling to and from Children's with many in-patient stays.
It began on February 16, 2019 when Danielle's elbow became very painful and she was unable to extend her arm. Wendy took Danielle to FMH and ultimately ended up at Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. on February 17, 2019 where a mass was discovered and Danielle was admitted to Children’s. A biopsy was taken on Tuesday, February 19 and sent to Sloan-Kettering in New York. Danielle was released on Wednesday morning. By Thursday, February 21, Wendy received a call that the biopsy was indeed cancer but, at this point, they did not know what type it was. In addition to Danielle's elbow mass, a lump was found under Danielle's arm. That was surgically removed at Children's on March 4 and was sent to pathology. Thankfully this was found to be benign. A port was put in during surgery. It was a very excruciating waiting period before they found out that the elbow mass had been diagnosed as Ewing's Sarcoma on March 8. Immediate action was taken and Danielle is now on a treatment plan and will undergo chemotherapy treatment for months at Children's.
This page was created to help defray the costs of driving back and forth from Frederick to Children's Hospital, parking, meals while at the hospital, and time missed from work for Danielle's parents. All funds will go directly to Wendy Hankey to cover these on-going costs.
