Dear Family and Friends,
I am about to embark on a journey that I am sure will be life changing. After a lengthy application process, I was selected as a volunteer with the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary (RSHM). I will be going to Immokalee in southern Florida, near Fort Myers (September 2014-August 2015). I am looking forward to living in an intentional community with three other volunteers from another service program.
A Little Background
I recently graduated from Molloy College with a BS in Social Work and Political Science. I will be working for Legal Aid Services of Collier County and Immokalee Housing and Family Services (IHFS). At Legal Aid Services, I will be helping farm workers with advocacy, doing intake, and scheduling appointments for the clients with the lawyers. When I am working at IHFS, I will do community outreach and connect with different professionals in the homeless community. I am also hoping to become more knowledgeable about the impact of human trafficking.
My Motivation
As many of you know, I have been volunteering since I was very young. Working with the homeless and the marginalized has always been a passion of mine. While at Molloy, I participated in many service projects. My hope is I will be able to make a difference in someone’s life. If I can make one person breathe easier, I will have truly succeeded.
What I Ask of You
The RSHM Volunteer program cannot run with the amount of funding they are currently receiving. As part of my acceptance to RSHM Volunteers, I have been challenged to raise funds to help support this program. Any donation, no matter how small would be greatly appreciated.
Important Notes
RSHM Volunteers is a public charity under 501(c)(3). Please note that you will only be able to claim the tax deduction by writing a check directly to RSHM. You can make checks out to RSHM but in the memo of the check it should say “RSHM Volunteers” along with my name and mail them to RSHM Volunteers, 50 Wilson Park Drive, Tarrytown, NY 10591.
