Dan's 5k Against Pancreatic Cancer

Bio:
Meet the Cross family; a beautiful and happy family who have recently taken on many hardships. Father and husband Dan was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in October of 2014. This coming almost two years after mother and wife Darci was diagnosed with Pituitary Cancer. Dan and Darci have been married now for 25 years and have two wonderful children. Their oldest, Matison, is 21 and a senior at CSU studying Occupational Therapy. Much of her desire to pursue this degree came from her father’s illness. Hayden is there youngest at 14. He enjoys playing baseball, basketball, and flag football as well as a number of video games. This coming fall he will be attending ThunderRidge High School as a freshman. Darci, still receiving treatments for her cancer and fighting through an infection in her hip (making it painful to move around freely), still works full time and stays active taking Hayden to his sporting events, visiting Matison in Fort Collins, and loving her family endlessly.

During mid-to-late 2014, Dan became very jaundice and was told that he had cancer in the opening of his pancreas leading to his bile duct. After a successful 10 hour surgery Whipple procedure, Dan managed to heal fast and get out of the hospital in only 12 days. However during the procedure, the surgeon found a lymph node that registered positive for cancer. After meeting with an Oncologist, they found that there were actually 5 lymph nodes that tested positive for cancer. Dan was diagnosed with stage 2 Pancreatic cancer and given a 20% chance to beat it (1 in 5 chance). Fast forward a year later (present day) and Dan continues to remain positive though enduring strong chemotherapy and constant scans. His illness makes it difficult for him to work at the strong and quick pace he used to.

Due to their medical bills, the family lost their house of 15yrs and had to move 2 times in early 2014. Our goal through the Dan Cross 5K is to raise enough money to help this family pay for medical bills, cancer treatments, and the cost of living. Your generous donations will go towards helping this wonderful family get back on their feet and continue on with their long and happy lives.
