To celebrate and honor Mr. Dan Martin's many years of volunteer service to the district and the music department, we have commissioned Dr. Quincy Hilliard to compose a piece of music to be premiered at the 17th annual All-District Band and Orchestra Concert on Monday, April 27, 2015.
For the past 20 years, Dan has spent a great deal of his time volunteering with the Carman-Ainsworth Community Schools music department. Prior to that, Dan spent years building reading treehouses, painting classrooms, and teaching origami, among other things. Since, he has moved band music and equipment thousands of miles.
Those of you who know Dan and his wife Debbie will also know that few have given so selflessly of their time and energy over so many years. Even though their own children graduated from Carman-Ainsworth 15 years ago, Dan has continued to contribute his time and has had an enormously positive impact on the hundreds of students with whom he has come in contact.
I hope that many of you reading this letter will see fit to help give something back to Dan in return for the positive effect he has had on so many of our lives. You can help by making a monetary donation to the Kyle Hart Fund in Dan’s name in order to help pay for the commissioned piece.
In addition to your gift, you can send a note telling Dan how he made a difference in your life or the life of someone you know. We will include your notes in the concert program.
Help us to quietly spread the word and reach out to the huge network of people whose lives have been touched by Mr. Martin. We hope that you will also attend the All-District Band and Orchestra Concert on April 27 and help us honor Dan in person.
The total cost of the commission is $4000. Monies raised above and beyond this will be used to bring the composer, Dr. Quincy Hilliard, to Michigan to premiere the piece.
Donations will be aggregated through the Kyle Hart Fund in Dan’s name. Please tell us how you would like to be listed in the program. All donors will be listed, unless donations are specified anonymous.
Thank you in advance for your help in making this a very special evening for a very special person.

Nota bene: We wish for this to be a surprise, and would like to keep the commission off of Dan’s radar for as long as possible, so we ask that you not discuss this with him directly. In the process of spreading the word via email, social media and personal conversation, please let everyone know that this is to be kept as quiet as possible.
