Dan Smith Cancer Fundraiser

Dan Smith (aka Ty Daniels, "Twitch") has been connected to the Vancouver music scene since 1990. In addition to his passion for guitar, bass, singing, and writing songs, Dan has pursued careers in photography & nursing, raised a daughter, and has dedicated his life to building community and helping others.
This June, he was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer and underwent 14 hours of emergency surgery -- removing 16" of his colon, 30 lymph nodes and 4" of his liver. Today, Dan's doctors believe that the cancer may have spread to his lungs, and he is waiting for a CT scan & biopsy in November to confirm their suspicion.
Having exhausted his sick leave and extended medical benefits, Dan must now pay out-of-pocket for his uncovered medical care, medication, and holistic nutrition expenses with his limited Employment Insurance benefits -- and there just isn't enough to make ends meet. The bills keep piling up.
We cannot let this situation continue! Dan has always been there to support his community. As a photographer, he created two fundraising cancer calendars in 2009 & 2010, and in 2010 he founded the BC Musicians Network Facebook group -- one of the first resources of its kind to connect local musicians with each other. Now it's our turn to be there for him.
We are hoping to raise enough money to top-up Dan's EI benefits and cover his living & treatment expenses for the next 8 months, a fundraising goal of $15,000.
In addition to this GoFundMe campaign, Dan's musician friends are organizing a fundraising benefit concert to be held at The Columbia on Saturday, November 25. For more information, go to www.dansmithconcert.com
