One of the main reasons I am taking part in one of the toughest sporting events in the world is to raise a lot of money for some really worthwhile and needy causes. Please help me not only provide some much needed funds to help the children and adults at Havens Hospice and Little Havens Hospice, but also to raise some awareness for the amazing work all the staff and volunteers do every day. Thank you
Also, I want to show that we are truly capable of more than we can imagine. What starts as a crazy idea can quickly turn into something life changing... I want to be as impactful as possible!
I am taking part in The World's Highest Marathon! for Havens’ Hospice Charity because I'm pushing the bounds of what is truly possible and making a real difference throughout the world. Part of the funding will go towards making my dream a reality so I can make a real difference for the Hospice and so I can leave a footprint and a lasting legacy around the world to show that we’re truly capable of anything we set our minds too.
Here’s a little back drop about how my life and how my health & fitness journey began...
Back on the 10th of December in 2012, I turned 30 and I decided that I no longer wanted to risk my health and wellness.
I accidentally found a love for fitness during the last 8 years and then running over the last 5 years. I knew my health wasn’t in a healthy and safe place mentally and physically, as I was over weight at 15 stone plus, so I knew I needed to lose weight not only for myself but also so I was able to do normal day to day activities with my daughter and family.
It started off as joining the gym and doing Insanity in 2012, and buying my first pair of running trainers back in 2015 to completing my first Tough Mudder Event, followed by my first local half marathon running event in Southend-on-Sea for Havens Hospice who are close to my heart with everything they do.
Fast forward to 2019 where I completed my first full London marathon, tandem skydive, fire-walking experience, 2nd marathon in Bournemouth supporting some great friends. You did amazing Dawan. I finished 2019 by completing my first ever 30 mile ultra marathon at Stort 30. (I described Stort 30 as hell but after reflection loved it!!)
On the 26th April 2020, the London Marathon was cancelled due to COVID 19 and the event was cancelled. Our country like the world around us is in turmoil, our NHS and it’s wonderful workers have been stretched to their limits. Our frontline staff and all other key workers are working tirelessly day in day out. I also want to thank everyone else playing a big part in all your local communities to continue to keep spirits raised during these new normal times.
To give something back and to say thank you to everyone that has helped me with my own personal journey in life, I’m also playing my part as a coach to give back to my local community, and by helping as many people around the world as I can through health, fitness and mindset where I can as much as possible.
Today I set off by taking part in the virtual London marathon 2020 in what I can only describe as horrible wet windy conditions, but it’s all about making a difference around the world so I will go out there today and enjoy the journey.
This will shortly be followed by a 250k multi ultra marathon trial race in the Julian Alps in Slovenia as I take part in the Ultra X World Championships. This will be my first ever multi race and the elevation along with Mount Everest will be the scariest and hardest challenge I’ve ever attempted.
I know times are hard at the moment for some, but if any of you could spare any small donations, even a one pound, it would be extremely gratefully received.
