<div>Am 3. Juli 2026 verlor die Welt mit Lydia Möcklinghoff eine leidenschaftliche Forscherin und Wissenschaftskommunikatorin: Lydia kam bei einem Flugzeugabsturz in Brasilien ums Leben, als sie auf dem Weg in ihr geliebtes Pantanal war. Sie wurde nur 45 Jahre alt.

<div>Lydia war als Tropenökologin, Verhaltensbiologin und engagierte Wissenschaftsvermittlerin bekannt. Über viele Jahre hinweg erforschte sie unter anderem das Verhalten und den Lebensraum des Großen Ameisenbären und gab ihr Wissen in Büchern, Podcasts, Interviews, Radiobeiträgen, Zeitungskolumnen und Dokumentarfilmen weiter. Ihre lebenslustige, zugleich fundierte und professionelle Art bleibt unersetzbar.

<div>Lydia war nicht nur eine brillante Forscherin, sondern auch ein Mensch, der andere verband: Wir werden ihre Offenheit, ihren Witz und ihre Fähigkeit, komplexe Themen mit Herz, Hirn und Humor zu vermitteln, nicht vergessen.

<div>In ihrem Sinne möchten wir Projekte unterstützen, die Forschung, Arten- und Biodiversitätsschutz sowie Wissensvermittlung voranbringen — damit ihr Engagement weiterwirkt.

<div>Sollte die Höhe der eingegangenen Spenden die Einrichtung einer Stiftung oder eines gemeinnützigen Vereins in Lydias Namen ermöglichen, werden wir eine Gründung prüfen und auf den Weg bringen.

<div>Unabhängig davon gilt: Jede Spende hilft, konkrete Projekte zum Schutz der Artenvielfalt und zur Vermittlung von Wissen zu unterstützen — und damit Lydias Lebenswerk fortzuführen.

<div>On July 3, 2026, the world lost a passionate researcher and science communicator in Lydia Möcklinghoff; she died in a plane crash in Brazil while en route to her beloved Pantanal. She was only 45 years old.

<div>Lydia was renowned as a tropical ecologist, behavioral biologist, and dedicated science communicator. For many years, she studied—among other subjects—the behavior and habitat of the giant anteater, sharing her knowledge through books, podcasts, interviews, radio segments, newspaper columns, and documentaries. Her zest for life, combined with her expertise and professionalism, is irreplaceable.

<div>Lydia was not only a brilliant researcher but also someone who brought people together; we will not forget her openness, her wit, and her ability to convey complex topics with heart, intellect, and humor.

<div>In her spirit, we wish to support projects that advance research, species and biodiversity conservation, and science communication—ensuring her commitment lives on.

<div>Decisions regarding the use of funds will be made jointly and transparently by a group of close associates and friends:

<div>Regardless, every donation helps support concrete projects dedicated to biodiversity conservation and science communication—thereby continuing Lydia’s life’s work.
