Damien Wheat's Recovery

Donation protected
Damien Wheat is known to always have a warm smile on his face, a dialogue ready for intriguing conversation, and an inviting home which has been an extended family to many.

He danced at the Warhol Factory the night The Velvet Underground recorded their first live record with Nico, threw many warm dinner gatherings, traveled Africa and Europe in a VW van in the 1960's, is an avid science fiction fan, lover of Chess and the ancient Chinese game GO, Blues, gym and weight lifting enthusiast, dedicated grandpa and all around lover of life.

Damien became a single parent when his wife became terminally ill with Huntington's Disease, and was left with two children to raise at a very difficult time. Always one to rise to the occasion, he worked hard and began selling cars over a decade ago in his 60's.

On August 30th, Damien Wheat was at work , walking in a marked crosswalk, when he was struck by a 1995 Suburban, throwing him 50 feet into the air. He was in the Trauma ICU for the past month and requires round the clock care. The driver that hit him was uninsured.

Damien's health has been a top priority for him.  Prior to the accident, he was very active, going to the gym and working out 6 days a week every morning before going to work. Now he will have disabilities for the rest of his life.

An incomplete list of his injuries are:
Shattered Pelvis with breaks in multiple places
Ruptured Kidney
Ruptured Bladder
Fractured Spine
Broken Ribs
Punctured Lung
Internal bleeding
Broken Collar bone
Broken and dislocated Shoulder
Suffered damage to his heart as a result of the impact
Has required multiple blood transfusions
Required a chest tube insertion to drain blood gathering around his lungs.
Developed sepsis and pneumonia

We know very little about the road we are on right now, but will be making updates here regularly
