Damien Rose Go Fund Me 09042018

This is a campaign set up for the medical expenses and bills for Damien, who is 17 years old and has Epilepsy to such an extreme that he is suicidal. Epilepsy is a central nervous system (neurological) disorder in which brain activity becomes abnormal, causing seizures or periods of unusual behavior, sensations, and sometimes loss of awareness. There are several types of seizures. Damien has Tonic-clonic seizures. Tonic-clonic seizures, previously known as grand mal seizures, are the most dramatic type of epileptic seizure and can cause an abrupt loss of consciousness, body stiffening and shaking, and sometimes loss of bladder control or biting your tongue. As you can imagine this has been scary for his family to say the least. There are also several complications that can be caused by epilepsy. Unfortunately, Damien is being severely impacted emotionally. People with epilepsy are more likely to have psychological problems, especially depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts and behaviors. Problems may be a result of difficulties dealing with the condition itself as well as side effects of the medications. Damien has experienced and is currently experiencing difficulty with psychological issues, severe depression, anxiety, and extreme issues with suicidal thoughts and behaviors. His seizures have been increasing in frequency as well as increasing in intensity over the last 6 months despite the family’s efforts with medical professionals to help him get better.

Damien’s struggle became more life-threatening July 1st, 2018 when he tried to take his life by overdosing on prescription medications and alcohol. He was placed in an acute inpatient facility through the emergency room where he was kept for about 9 days. Due to some insurance issues, Damien was discharged on July 12th, 2018 and despite our endless efforts to keep him safe, he overdosed again within 24 hours, putting him back in the emergency room July 13th, 2018. He was placed in a different acute inpatient facility July 13th, 2018 for about 19 days. From there he discharged to a residential inpatient facility where he stayed for about 9 days. Upon discharge Damien seemed better but not as well as he needed to be. He was placed in intensive outpatient therapy where his mother took him to group substance abuse therapy for 3 nights a week for 3 hours each night. He was attending individual therapy treatment once a week for an hour and saw a psychiatrist once a week as well. However, despite his progress through these efforts, he has relapsed again. On August 31st, Damien overdosed and was taken back to the emergency room where he was transferred to a different inpatient facility and is currently still there for treatment. He feels overwhelmed and defeated because he has tried so many medications and treatments to no avail. As a community we are willing to do anything we can to help him get the medical treatment he needs to be able to live a happy, healthy life again.

We are fundraising to help cover the cost of Damien’s medical care. Damien’s treatment has been quite costly with multiple inpatient stays and multiple overnight emergency room stays. Unfortunately, not everything has been covered in-network. Some physicians and the ambulance companies were not contracted with the insurance. The insurance plan is a high deductible health plan, so Damien’s family is responsible for a large sum of money for the deductible and coinsurance, in addition to the medical treatment that has not been covered, or as mentioned, partially covered out-of-network.

Please feel free to donate if possible or just keep Damien and his family in your prayers during his road to recovery.
