Dear Hornets Friends and Family-
You may already be aware, Coach Damien has been assisting his mother and younger brother recently as they navigate a severe health issue. Damien's brother, Bryant, who has lived with severe handicaps since birth, was admitted to the hospital for uncontrollable seizures several weeks ago. Since then, Damien's mother and Bryant's primary caregiver, has continued to stay with him throughout treatment in Salisbury and now at Levine Children's Hospital in Charlotte, for at least a few more weeks. Bryant was in a medically induced coma and on a ventilator for well over a week. Ultimately doctors had to perform a tracheotomy, since he couldn't breath on his own in an effort to help him regain strength and stop the seizures.
Unfortunately, a critical medical situation such as this puts strain on a family, both emotionally and financially. Those of you who have known Damien over the years know he is the first guy to step up in a crisis and provide assistance to friends, family, athletes and students. As a friends and a Hornets family, several of you have asked how you can help. I'd like to provide a convenient and coordinated way for anyone who would like to help him provide financial support to his family during this time to do so. I've set up a "Go Fund Me" page (link below) for anyone who would like to make a contribution and all proceeds will be given to Damien, to be used to benefit his mom and brother, at his discretion.
Please do not feel obligated to participate. This is strictly voluntary. Any amount is helpful and I know will be greatly appreciated.
Please let me know if you have any questions. I will leave the link up until March 31st and plan to provide Damien 100% of the funds the first week of April.
