Damaris story like many cancer patients comes after a very unexpected event. She was diagnosed with brain cancer after the delivery of her baby on 05/11/2017. She was rushed immediately to the ICU ward after suffering an unexpected seizure. She had her first brain surgery 05/15/2017 where they were able to remove 1 tumor from her brain. She underwent several more surgeries in that month to place a shunt in her brain to help with the drainage of the excess fluid from the brain. Then they found out that she has several more tumors on her spine. She was not able to hold her new born baby until after the placement of her brain shunt and it was only allowed 15 minutes to hold her newborn baby. Any mother can imagine the emotions that a mother can have Not being able to hold or breastfeed your newborn baby. Since then she has started the rigorous radiation therapy on 07/01/2017 that would last for 6 weeks to see if any shrinkage would happen.
She was also required 6 months of Chemotherapy which she started on 07/21/2017. As one can imagine she has not been able to work. She is on medical leave. She worked as a Bi-lingual Liason for a local Elementary School. She is very loved and missed by the parent's, students and staff as well as by her family and friends. She has a loving husband Juan and she has her 2 loving kids ages 4 and her baby of 3 months.
In the last few weeks, we have learned more about cancer treatment than we ever wanted to know. Damari's hair has fallen out, and she has shown strength none of us knew she had. She is always very positive and joyful. Never once has she complained about anything. She has strong faith and still finds ways to encourage those around her.
For this reason, we are humbly reaching out to each one of you to join in helping our dear friend in lightening the economic burden of fighting cancer. This campaign will help support Damari’s medical expenses, lost wages, for treatments, childcare, and other unpredicted expenses as she battles this chapter of her life.
