Damali's Healing Journey

Donation protected
When I think of togetherness, hope, and progress, I think of Damali. She has always shown up for us. Damali shows up with love. With care. With strength and certainty. With unyielding faith and optimism. With complete confidence in us. With her whole self. I know you have felt it.

Damali has that special ability to turn every situation, even the most challenging and heart breaking, into spaces of love and healing. Time and time again, we have leaned on Damali to carry us through and help us heal.

Now it is time for us to show up for her. To give what we can to build the space for her healing.

The severity of Damali’s March 6th Covid-19 diagnosis was exacerbated by her sarcoidosis, a rare autoimmune disorder. She battled double pneumonia and a host of other serious symptoms. Against the challenge, Damali pushed through, and thankfully her condition has stabilized. But her healing is just beginning, and this time, she needs our help.

Damali is seeking treatment at the Cleveland Clinic in order to get treatment at their specialized Sarcoidosis Center. It is an expensive, long-term treatment, but a necessary one.

Any contribution you can make will impact her healing. Thank you.

With love,

-Owen, Marisol, Luana, Andrea, & Gina

A Note from Nina

My mother, Damali Vidot, has been suffering from sarcoidosis for as long as I can remember. Sarcoidosis is a rare auto-immune disorder that involves several organs. On March 6, 2021, my mother tested positive for Covid-19. At first, she did not have any symptoms. However, she shortly became extremely sick. Her sarcoidosis worsened her experience with Covid-19. My mother has had multiple hospital visits and was diagnosed with double pneumonia, an inflammation in both of the lungs. These tough times have encouraged my mother to prioritize her health more. We want to raise money to be able to send her to the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio so that she can manage and treat her condition. Cleveland Clinic is the second best hospital in the world. They specialize in the research of rare diseases. Cleveland Clinic also houses a variety of doctors for multiple organs and organ systems, which would be beneficial for my mom due to the intersectionality and complexity of sarcoidosis. She cannot do this without your help. My mother's desire to attend this hospital can be completed with the appropriate funding. Throughout her life, Damali has dedicated all of her time to connecting with community members of all backgrounds. She is a proud activist, mentor, community leader, and advocate.  After happily donating all of her time to helping others, I was hoping that those same investments can be returned to support her health. It would be amazing if the community that she has worked so hard to support can support her too. I have seen my mom's struggles with sarcoidosis firsthand. I remember her being sick for months at a time when I was little. I always wished that she could fully recover, but, unfortunately, this has never happened. It would mean the world to me if you could help my mom and me by supporting her.
