Help Dallas Battle Brain Tumor
Donation protected
On December 7, 2018, 27-year-old Dallas was sitting down to eat dinner with his family when he suddenly started having a massive seizure and went into cardiac arrest. His family performed CPR until emergency services arrived and rushed him to the hospital. A CT scan, and a brain MRI revealed a huge, lemon-sized brain tumor. Dallas spent 4 days in the ICU and then 4 days in neuro-rehab relearning some of the simplest tasks. While in the ICU, a brain tumor biopsy was performed. Pathology results confirmed a Grade 2 astrocytoma. Although the astrocytoma is slow growing, there is no cure. Due to the tumor’s location, removing the tumor could devastate Dallas’ motor function and speech among other deficits. His neurosurgeon has proposed preforming an "awake" brain surgery January 22, 2019 to remove parts of the tumor hopefully resulting in the least amount of deficits possible. Dallas will need to have a specialized Functional Brain MRI at the University of Utah Hospital on January 15, 2019, prior to the surgery. His insurance is only partially covering the $3,000 MRI. Dallas will also have a 12-month journey of radiation and chemotherapy, hopefully shrinking the tumor while increasing his length of survival.
After consultations with neurosurgeons and oncologists, we know Dallas has a great deal of unknowns ahead but has a great team behind him. Dallas is currently unable to drive and live alone – a big change for an independent, responsible 27-year-old. He already has out-of-pocket medical expenses and he may not be able to return to work and maintain medical insurance. Our hearts are broken as Dallas takes on a daunting future, but we are hoping this fundraiser will be a positive push as he prepares for the long road ahead. By helping with his medical bills (present and future), he will hopefully be able to focus on treatment and maintain a positive outlook on the life he still has to live. Thank you to everyone that supports Dallas – your kindness, prayers, and generosity means the world to us.
As Dallas said, “Always live like it’s your last day.”
