Dale Cox ALS Relief Fund

Dear friends and family,

My dear brother-in-law Dale Cox and his family need your help and your prayers.

His wife Christine has written a letter to tell their story:

“On August 25, 2017, Dale was diagnosed with ALS. This is devastating news for Dale’s friends and family, because as we all know there currently is no cure for this terrible disease. Dale has always been the provider for his family and no matter what he has always taken care of them. Can you imagine how he felt when he had to break the news to his kids and family?

Together we have raised 2 wonderful kids. Our son Patrick graduated last year and works side by side with his dad at Standard Tire.  Our daughter Loveann graduated this May and will be attending CU Denver in the fall to pursue a degree in neuroscience. She has always known she wanted a career in the medical field, but after learning about her dad’s ALS diagnosis, she has decided to study neuroscience with the hope of being able to help other people who have this devastating disease.

Dale loves working at Standard Tire. He has worked there for the last 19 years and has been the manager for more than 10 years. He was getting ready to be a partner in the business with the owners Tom and Kristy Barrett. He was so proud and excited for this new chapter in his life until that fateful day he was diagnosed with ALS.

Even though his disease is progressing and it has become more difficult, Dale is still working because he loves his job, his boss, his coworkers and his customers. All these people are more like friends and family to him. It will be a sad day when Dale no longer greets his customers as they walk through the door or no longer answers the phone with his familiar greeting, “Standard Tire, this is Dale”. He knows this day is coming sooner rather than later.

Dale’s motto since he was diagnosed with ALS has been, “It is what it is.” But it shouldn’t have to be. Everyone who knows someone with ALS or has lost someone to ALS prays for a cure. Unfortunately, there still in no cure. One day, hopefully soon, they will find that cure so no other family, friend, or loved one will have to go through the horrible pain of watching your loved one deteriorate before your eyes, knowing you will eventually lose them. Until that cure is found, it is a life taken too soon.”

There is so much that needs to be done so Dale can have the best quality of life with the time he has left. The downstairs needs to be remodeled in order to turn the family room into a handicapped accessible bedroom where Dale has room to get around in his power-wheel chair. The bathroom also needs to be made accessible with a roll-in shower. A chair lift that will carry Dale upstairs also needs to be installed so he is not confined to the downstairs. A handicapped accessible vehicle is also needed to transport Dale to and from his local doctor and therapy appointments, his visits to see his team of ALS specialists in Denver, and just day to day living needs.

The prognosis of this disease is a heavy burden Dale and his family carry everyday. Let’s help lighten the financial burden that they are also faced with. Please donate whatever you are able to so Dale and Christine and their family can focus on spending quality time together instead of worrying about how their financial needs are going to be met.

Dale and Christine are the sole beneficiaries of this account and all the funds collected here will be transferred to an account at Alpine Bank that is in their name.

Thank you so much for blessing this special family with your donation and your prayers.
