Daddy, Why Are You Going to Jail? was the question our 5-year old son, Blake, asked his Daddy before he left for Eglin Federal Prison to serve an 8-year sentence for security violations. After a series of miraculous events my husband came home to his family after only 18-months. The question our son asked as a little boy became the title of a successful Christian book published in 1992 with a Foreword by Chuck Colson. It is our desire to re-publish the original book for a new audience along with the rest of the story that Stephen and I wrote before he passed away entitled, The Next 12,410 Days. The number of days equals 34-years and we share our struggles and the realities of family life after a person comes home from prison. More importantly, we share how our faith only deepened because of a merciful and loving God.
We gave all of the proceeds from the sale of the book to Prison Fellowship and this time we will do no less. It is our desire to share the proceeds with Angel Tree, a Prison Fellowship ministry for the children of the incarcerated and with Orthodox Christian Prison Ministry.
Our mission is to raise awareness of those in prison and to undergird those prison ministries that share the Excellency of Christ, rescue the souls of the lost, and remember the children of the incarcerated. Our purpose is based on Hebrews 13:3.
Specifically, we are asking to raise funds to cover the front end costs for republishing the original book along with the new material to create a brand new book .
The costs include hiring a professional developmental book editor, videographer, implementing the 501c3 non-profit corporation and IRS tax exempt status; printing, marketing, book cover design, publicity, and distribution costs. We know there will be unknown expenses as well which is hard to factor into our budget right now.
We want to joyfully include donors in this miracle. Included in the new book will be a section to acknowledge and thank those who have made this possible through their donations. For now we will call them our "Book Angels". If you wish to remain anonymous we will honor that request. This project is beyond our natural abilities and we depend upon the Holy Spirit and the prayer support of many to supernaturally accomplish this goal.
Once the book is published Blake and I will be available for speaking engagements at your church or Christian conference in order to share personally the mercy and goodness of God in modern days lives.
