Dad's Dementia: A Teenager's Plea

Donation protected
This is me and my awesome dad on Father’s Day 2018. His name is Jim Humphrey, and he is a loving dad, brother, and friend of many. He was 55 years young and I was only 16 when he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Dementia two years ago.

My 14 year old little sister and I are still coming to terms with how this disease will change all of our lives, especially now. Although we didn’t live with him, we were assured that his needs would be met at home. However, his wife has now divorced him and he is in desperate need of housing and care with very limited funds to survive on.  I’m his oldest child, so I was asking myself, “What do I do? What CAN I do?”

After many prayers and with the support of family, I now ask for your help with the enormous expenses of Alzheimer’s care for my Dad. Companion care averages $15-$20 an hour, assisted living starts at $3000 a month, and when he needs memory care, I am looking at $4000 - $5000 a month. Until there is a cure, kids of early onset Alzheimer’s patients, like my sister and I, will be faced with responsibilities that no adolescents should ever have to deal with.

We love my dad so much and I wish I had the funds to help him on my own, but at 18, I just don’t have that kind of money. You are my only hope. Please help me get him the care he needs! No donation is too small and all will be appreciated more than I could ever express!
