DACA Fund at the Claremont Colleges

On November 12, the Supreme Court will review the Trump Administration’s challenge to lower court rulings that blocked it from ending DACA. Rise for DACA students at the five campuses and show the Supreme Court that the undocumented community is not alone.

Please support DACAmented and Undocumented students at the Claremont Colleges Consortium’. Student-run clubs including, Immigrant Rights Coalition (IRC), Improving Dreams, Equality, Access, and Success (IDEAS), Pitzer College’s Latinx Student Union (LSU), are coming together to raise funds to ensure that the undocumented community across the 5Cs are protected, supported financially, and welcomed in ALL academic and residence spaces across the five colleges.

The anti-immigrant agenda has been built over time and several presidencies and significantly expanded under the Trump Administration. Trump has cancelled DACA during his time in office and it has created anxiety and uncertainty among undocumented students at the five campuses who are  under exceptional pressure about their futures. With threats to DACA & TPS, The Trump Administration’s anti-immigrant rhetoric has put the livelihoods and dreams of undocumented Americans at incredible risk.

The cancellation of DACA and TPS could devastate the lives of hundreds of thousands of undocumented Americans, including undocumented students at the Claremont Colleges. As it stands, undocumented students cannot legally receive any federally funded student financial aid, including loans, grants, scholarships or work-study money. They are forced to struggle to pay for tuition, textbooks, as well as everyday expenses such as transportation, food, and shelter. Not to mention the unexpected legal fees associated with their immigration status and often those of their families. While the universities say they provide resources it is not enough. They also make students undergo humiliating process of scrutiny in the process of applying for the funds, asking  of them things that would never be asked of any other student.

What we want for undocumented students is for all of them to have the resources and support to succeed just like any other student. We also hope this campaign brings the necessary attention to the precarious and ever-changing situation undocumented students experience at the Claremont Colleges and around the country. Despite pervasive social stigma, persistent fear of deportation and separation from their family, the undocumented community continues to resist, excel academically, and create new ways to fund at least some of their education.

Show your solidarity by donating to the success of dacamented and undocumented students.
