This is a photo of Great Grandma Pauline, holding my great nephew, Abram Johnson. He is my sister, Paula Reynolds, youngest grandchild who just turned one a few weeks ago. He is Heidi and Steve Johnson’s youngest of 13 children.

Abram began growing much faster than a normal baby and had other symptoms Heidi knew were not normal. A doctors appointment was made and blood tests were drawn which revealed signs that Abram may have a tumor. They immediately were in contact with Drs from Iron Mountain area and Marquette who were also working with Drs from University of Michigan Hospital. The decision was made to leave and drive to U of M to the ER where doctors knew they were coming. Yesterday, a scan of Abram’s abdomen and chest were done, which were all normal. Today an MRI was done of Abram’s head which revealed a large tumor on his cerebellum, which controls heart and breathing etc. Tomorrow, they will do another test to check his spine to make sure the tumor hasn’t spread there. Abram was moved to the pediatric Intensive Care Unit. He is sedated and resting peacefully, which Steve said is a blessing.
The first plan is to start chemotherapy to shrink the tumor. Next they will do surgery to remove the tumor. The doctors told Heidi and Steve that most tumors in this area in babies are cancerous, but they won’t know what they are dealing with until they remove the tumor. Heidi asked the doctors if he can survive this and she said, yes, that she has had children survive this.
Heidi and Steve will be with Abram for the duration of his stay there. They have friends staying with the other children. Normally, Heidi and Steve do not like things posted on Facebook, but they have asked me to post the details to inform the many family members and friends who are praying for them. I will also be setting up a Go Fund Me page for them, as Heidi and Steve’s full attention will be to care for Abram’s needs at this time. Praise God for our amazing community who reach out to help when others are in need. Abram is receiving care from a group of amazing Drs and, of course, God is in control. Thank you for your prayers.
