My Mitzvah Project

Dear family and friends,
As you all know, my bar-mitzvah is coming up in a few months and I am working on a mitzvah project. For this I would like to help out the non-profit organization, Rubye’s Kids, with one of their projects. Rubye’s Kids is an organization that provides a variety of enriching experiences for needy children in the Philadelphia metropolitan area so that they have an opportunity to grow into self-assured, benevolent adults who give back to the communities they encounter in their personal and professional lives. The orginization provides essential school supplies to many of the inner city elementary schools with needy children. They work to provide every child living in a homeless shelter with a sturdy backpack filled with school supplies through our Backpack Project. They create Rubye's Kids Learning Centers with computers, books and furniture for the shelters that need them. And recently they have added this duffel and pillow project.
Shelters don’t allow people that come bring an old pillow. They are allowed one bag of belongings, usually a trash or plastic bag. Rubye’s Kids has created the duffel and pillow project to help these families. They provide a new duffel, with necessary toiletries and pillow to each person coming into the shelter. My goal is to collect 100 pillows to go with the Rubye’s Kids pillowcases, and other toiletries for the families that can be packed into the duffel. Once I have these supplies I will work to ‘fill’ the duffels that for these families. I hope you can help.
