Hello my name is Jacob Pond. I am 28 years old and have been in Congestive Heart Failure since I’ve been 18 years old. I have managed to battle a good fight the past ten years and stay relatively healthy. I have had to make many lifestyles changes that most 18 year olds don't have to worry about. The past two years have been really bad health-wise for me. I have started to develop clots in my lungs and heart, and I also started having abnormal heart arrhythmias. When I was diagnosed with atrial fibrillation two years ago, I could not have a cardioversion due to the clot in my heart. I battled this clot and others clots with blood thinners for a year straight before it cleared and was able to have the cardioversion. During this whole entire process, my pacemaker/defibrillator had recorded minor (major in some of my doctor’s opinions) issues with ventricular fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia. So as another precaution, I had to have an AV node ablation so my pacemaker/defribulator actually controls the ventricles 99 percent of the time! This has been a very long process and I was supposed to feel better.... Things are not looking up as I have now moved to being shocked by the defibrillator for these many arrhythmias. I currently do not fully qualify for a new healthy heart because of many variables, and too many for me to be able to explain fully to be honest. My next point of action is to actually have a LVAD (Left Ventricle Assist Device) implanted in my chest to assist my heart. This is basically a pump that is implanted on my heart to take blood through a direct line out of my body to a machine that will pump it back into my body into a main artery with enough force to apparently make me feel like I have a new heart for now. This is supposed to help with many of the issues stopping the transplant process as well. I have many issues now beyond my health that challenge me daily. One important issue is that my vehicle has become unreliable. And even though I have a support system of my family and friends who help tremendously I do not want to burden them with all of my daily necessities of running errands. My girlfriend carts me around to a large majority of things in my vehicle when it is running. As it sits right now, I have nothing for an emergency. I would have to hope 911 or a family member arrives in time before trouble. It hurts my personal integrity and dignity as a 28 year old man to ask for help, as I feel like I should be able to provide for myself. Being as disabled as I am now, it is just simply not possible for me to be able to make things happen in the manner I wish I could so badly do. I simply do not even have enough income monthly from disability to ask a financial institution for the help either. I feel the "your back is against the wall" statement in full effect and would be eternally grateful for any help I receive. I live in Jackson, MI and travel to the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor at least once a week. That is why I am here, Thank You and God Bless!!!!!
