Help Abbey Fight Cancer

Everyone that knows Abbey, knows she is strong, bold and ready for any adventure. However, she never expected the difficult adventure she is now facing.

Earlier this year, Abbey began experiencing random extreme pain in her abdomen. In the midst of the COVID pandemic, she was left with little to no medical help until Dr's began accepting appointments in July. By this time, the pain had become so severe, it was affecting her ability to live her everyday life. Attending school to pursue her cosmetology dream and function at her job, were beginning to take a back seat due to her constant pain.

When she was finally able to see a Dr, the journey began. She had gone back and forth to several Dr’s and had several different diagnoses, ranging from a benign fibroid to cervical cancer Stages 1-3.

After finally meeting with Dr's at the University of IA Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center, she finally got answers. Unfortunately, they were not easy answers to handle. PET scans had confirmed the official cervical cancer diagnosis. Her tumor had already grown to over 6 cm, and it had spread to surrounding parametrical lymph nodes and surrounding parametrium (tissue), which classified the diagnosis as stage 3c.

Dr's quickly developed a treatment plan, as to not waste any more valuable time. They suggested Abbey begin chemotherapy and radiation treatment as soon as possible. But this treatment decision affected more than just her survival. The radiation would be used to eliminate her cancer, while also eliminating her chance of someday being a mother. While this was not an easy pill to swallow, Abbey knew that she had no choice but to do her best to stay positive, take things one day at a time and defeat this cancer!

She is currently scheduled for an 8 week minimum treatment plan. She is currently in the first week of her treatment plan and remains hopeful. Abbey is receiving treatment 5 days a week in IA City, where she is staying in a hotel, away from her home, family and friends. Things have progressed so quickly and there are still so many unforeseen battles, that we are not entirely sure of the total financial impact of this fight for her life. However, the day to day financial struggles are already beginning to take a toll.

To help our friend, we are raising this money to allow Abbey to get the care she needs without having to worry about the cost of her treatment or how she will support herself given she is now unable to work. This is the most important fight of her life and we want her to focus on that and come out on the other side of this and continue her amazing adventures.

Thank you all in advance for any help you graciously offer.
