<div>General John Glover was a Revolutionary War hero who led the Marblehead Militia in the Battle of Brooklyn and the Crossing of the Delaware. His farmhouse is located in Swampscott, Massachusetts. The <strong>farmhouse is in danger of being demolished to make way for residential development.</strong> As of January 2024, the demolition delay has expired.

<div>General John Glover was a key figure in the American Revolution. He led the Marblehead Militia in the Battle of Brooklyn, where his regiment rescued General George Washington's army from defeat. Glover also facilitated the Crossing of the Delaware, which was a turning point in the war. On the eve of the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, we must save this important site!

<div>General Glover's Regiment ferried Washington's army across the ice-choked Delaware River on Christmas Eve, 1776.

<div>In 1781, Glover was rewarded for his service with an authorization to purchase the confiscated 180-acre farm of a British loyalist who had fled to England. He continued to serve his country as an elected member of the Massachusetts legislature. The farmhouse remained his home until his death in 1797.

<div>Glover's final home is a reminder of his important contributions to the American Revolution and his country during the immediate postwar period. It is also a rare example of a c1750 colonial farmhouse.

</div>
<div>General John Glover's farmhouse and surrounding outbuildings are still privately owned. A development company has approved plans to turn this property into residential units.
</div>

<div>For 25+ years, the site lay abandoned. Everyone believed that the house was too deteriorated to be saved. The Swampscott Historical Commission hired its own structural engineers and preservation architects who determined that the building can be salvaged! The Commission enacted a 9-month demolition delay which expired in January 2024. The towns of Swampscott, Salem, Marblehead, and the Marblehead-based Glover’s Regiment are fundraising to preserve this historic building.
