Next month our family is hosting missionary Douglas Ruballos from El Salvador, who runs ministry Esperanza Y Vida; an organization that assists AIDS & Cancer children in the poor areas of San Salvador. We are honored to have him come stay with us!
I have known Douglas since 2006, and have had opportunity to work alongside him on a few mission trips to his country. He is a joy-filled Christian whose unwavering devotion to this mission, has helped many suffering children get the treatment and basic necessities they need to fight their disease. It brought tears to my eyes to meet these kids, especially when I returned 5 years later and was able to see some again - and how they had grown up & were still strong in their fight.
The struggle in El salvador is very different to here in the US. Much of the country is "dirt" poor and literally live in dirt floor shacks. Tin homes, some wood, some brick. Life's a struggle beyond what we would ever have to think about struggling with. And for these children suffering from life threatening diseases - imagine the immense difficulties. TO get food, clean water, a bus fare to get to town for treatment, where to stay...how to pay...
Douglas's ministry provides in town shelter for (up to 30) those visiting for treatment. He serves breakfast three times a week to the families staying and he also does weekly trips to the mountains to visit struggling families and delivers food care boxes. Douglas prays with them and encourages them.
