Help Feed the Rescue Horses

Donation protected

These beautiful horses and ponies are in need of food.   Income for food is generated usually by special events or children's camps.  However due to covid all fundraising events have been cancelled.  They eat almost 2 times the amount to combat the cold - increasing costs drastically.   One bale of hay is $100 in the winter and they will go through 15-20 bales a month.

These horses have provided so much comfort to me and so many.  It pains me to see the owner and volunteers struggle to provide for them.  We need help to feed these guys and continue to rescue more.  They have been either saved from slaughter, neglect, abuse or their owners simply could not care for them anymore.  They are now safe and enjoying life on a quiet little farm in Mossley, Ontario.  They are cared for by a team of volunteers who assist with the rescue, rehabilitation retraining and rehoming.  Those that can't be rehomed or are unsuitable, due to a variety of reasons such as age or health problems, are offered a forever home within the herd.

There are 12 horses/ponies altogether that need assistance.

Words from the owner:

"Every day I walk into the barn I am humbled by what these magnificent creatures have endured, and I get the opportunity to renew their faith and trust in people again, and show them there is hope, kindness out there, and provide them a soft landing. We are always their safe haven...We are... HOME."

We need support to get through the winter.

During this trying time if you can help in some small way with a donation towards feeding the horses it would be so gratefully appreciated.

Meet the herd

Samson:  Was ill treated and lived in very poor conditions.

Tommy
:  Tommy is 30 yrs old.  He was a mangled mess when we got him; over grown feet and teeth, had severe rain rot and thrush, struggled to breath as he wasn't being properly treated for the beginnings of heaves. Was a kil pen rescue so not much history. :(

Playboy
: Play was a horse that was severely abused and taken from the owner by the OSPCA and placed in our care where we ended up adopting him and assuming all his care for the extensive medical needs including multiple surgeries costing over $10,000 .  He suffers from PTSD and requires monitoring.  He has ongoing medical needs as well as special feed to help him maintain weight.

Paxton
:  Paxton is a pony with severe deformity and mobility issues from being tangled in a fence and not given proper care.  She is just the sweetest pony!

Little Bear
:  Aka. L.B.  came from a friend who rescued him and got him back to health, but couldn't house him or meet his needs after a few months.  He then developed a serious locking of his patella and required surgery to repair it which was $1500.  He will always require rehab and therapy.

Lucy
:  Lucy is a horse that is run down from showing carrer as a jumper, which left her with arthritis, she has poor confirmation and was under weight her feet severely over grown almost like elf shoes and untouched when we got her.

Rayne
:  Abandoned by her owner and adopted when she was 18 months old.

Mini Wheat
:  Mini wheat was acquired from a fellow riding facility as he wasn't suitable for their program and needed a more suitable home willing to deal with his behavioral issues as he was mis-handled.

Murphy and Ringo:  Murphy and Ringo came together from the same rescue.  Murphy was in need or ground work, training and behavior modification he was a rescue acquired from a poor situation so we carried on with his rehabilitation.  Ringo was donated as the previous rescuer wanted Ringo to go to an experienced home, as well as make room for more rescues.  We try not to turn any away!

Romeo
:  Handsome Romeo was rescued by a previous owner from a kill pen situation.  The previous owner rehabilitated him and wanted him to go on to an experienced home that could offer a safe landing and understood his needs as a rescue.

Lily:  Lily is a pony that we got many years ago that wasn't in an ideal home environment for her needs.
