TEAM ALYSSA

Alyssa, a 14 year old girl, is experiencing complications due to Mitochondrial Disease. Alyssa has been free of complications for the past five years, enjoying numerous activities such as Dance, Swim Team, Girl Scouts, Kuk Sool Martial Arts, Dog Rescue, Singing, School, and Hanging out with Friends. Alyssa is having chest pain, complications breathing deeply, neurological issues, severe muscle weakness (that requires a wheelchair at times), and muscle pain/spasms/weakness over the body. She still has a smile on her face! She is on medications for most of these symptoms, but with little relief. We are also making sure she gets a lot of rest. Each day is different and brings a new challenge. Overall, she is still a positive, happy girl! Alyssa has been out of school for over three months now. She misses her friends and can't wait to have a "normal" life again.

Alyssa has several tests that the doctors would like to run on her to properly treat her and give her relief from the symptoms she is experiencing. The initial test is $6,400. The parents of Alyssa are going to have to pay off several medical bills plus earn the money for these additional tests. There is no cure for Mitochondrial Disease, but with the proper diagnosing, it is possible to find what Alyssa's body is lacking or what is not working at the mitochondrial level. With this knowledge we can hopefully provide some supplemental care, for Alyssa will be battling this disease for the rest of her life.
