In late July, we received devastating news that our mother, Catherine, was diagnosed with Gliobastomas. This is a condition where tumors arise from astrocytes – star-shaped cells that make up the supportive tissue of the brain. These tumors are highly malignant because cells reproduce quickly and are supported by a large network of blood vessels. This is a very aggressive cancer, one that requires brain surgery and after, intense radiation and chemo.
Catherine’s tumor was located on the left side of her brain, in between her motor and speech functions. Thankfully, they were able to go ahead with surgery and remove the tumor. But with this very aggressive form of brain cancer, they couldn’t possibly get the entire tumor so cells still remain. In the coming days, radiation and chemo will begin. And with that, a whole new set of challenges and a life we never imagined.
With the care of our amazing doctors at Riverside, we are hopeful that with the combination of surgeries, radiation, chemo, and promising medical trials, we will beat this terrible cancer. We’re willing to do anything and everything to overcome this obstacle.
But we need your help. In order to keep fighting, we need the funds to pay for this expensive treatment. Even with insurance, scans, intense surgery, radiation, chemo, follow ups and medical trials come with a high cost. It’s always been extremely hard for our family to ask for help or rely on others but we took a leap of faith and decided to start this campaign in order to relieve at least one worry from our Mom and Dad's mind.
Any support you can provide will go towards our mom’s ongoing treatment and medical expenses. We are beyond grateful and humbled by the people in our lives. We’ve set a goal of $10,000 but we have no idea how much this will cost. Any help you can provide would be incredible and we are truly thankful.
