Scott Thornton, my best friend since childhood, and a best friend to many would do anything for anybody. Scott is a generous soul with an incredible sense of humor, loves rock-n-roll, and lives life to the fullest.
This is his ALS story:
Over the past year Scott has had increasing weakness in his hands. He was finding it more and more difficult to perform his daily tasks of living. Although he thought it strange, he never imagined the news he would receive. The weakness progressed to a point that opening a water bottle, or putting on socks was nearly impossible. After some encouragement, he sought medical attention. Although he has been a hard working electrician in the state of California, he had no medical insurance! His fear of losing his job, and reluctance to be in debt prolonged his seeking care. Noone was willing to diagnose his complicated symptoms without insurance. All the diagnostic testing would be very costly, and unaffordable for Scott. It took many months, and loads of frustation, before finally qualifying for state funding and disability. Due to expenses, Scott has been forced to move out of his apartment, and in with some life long friends. On July 29th, Scott recieved the devastating diagnosis of ALS. We have all been doing the "Ice Bucket" challenge to raise awareness, and funds for research to help our dear friend. As incredible as this is, we wished there was a way to help lift the burden for Scott himself. This diagnosis comes with a big price tag, and unmeasurable stress. Scott has a million friends! Let's see how much we can raise to help Scott with unforseen medical and/or living expenses!
